oh...the lead of Sublime taking that hit after years of sobriety, success, a child on the way and a hot wife, only to OD.

Great thread:

Ok, here are mine, but I'd agree with Josh on a few of his as well, so I won't repeat them.

1) Van Halen fires David Lee Roth
2) Mick Taylor leaves the Rolling Stones to start a solo career.
3) Led Zeppelin break up and become impotent solo artists.
4) This isn't a bad decision, but a bad break:  Pete Best is kicked out of the Beatles before they hit it big.
5) Prince changes his name to an unpronounceable symbol and watches his sales and relevance completely plummet.

I'm sure I'll think of more later, but Josh took Cobain, which is a huge one.

Drugs and alcohol.

The Dick Clark era's attempts to 'whitewash' rock and roll.

Adding the third chord  :rotflmao:

1 - Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper get on an airplane during a snow storm.

2 - John Lennon takes Yoko Ono on a second date.

3 - Kiss appears on an album cover without their makeup.

4 - Various music label decisions to put out albums by actors (eg. Don Johnson, Bruce Willis, Eddie Murphy, David Soul, Rick Springfield).

Mick Abrahms leaving Jethro Tull after the first album. As a sidebar, if you watch the pretty unwatchable "Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus" you'll see Jethro Tull with Tony Iommi (yup, Mr Monster Riff himself) on guitar before the arrival on Martin Barre.

Peter Banks leaving Yes after two albums.

Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce not letting Eric Clapton choose the material.

This gets my new vote for #1!

No, maybe millions of people buy Culture Club and Wham albums, including Emil Capozzi, who then was kind enough to spread the love to me. :inlove:

1) Sid Barrett's drug problem causing him to get kicked from Pink Floyd - From his point of view BIG mistake.  From the fan side... hard to say.  We wouldn't have the Pink Floyd we do if it weren't for that.

2) Roger Waters not only not reuniting with PF several years back, but actively trying to stop the rest of the band from using the name.  Guess he just couldn't be pried (pride?) from that highly successful solo career.

3) Jim Croce getting on the plane that proved to be his demise.

4) Michael Jackson... Where do you even start?  It's impossible to pick out just one...

5) Sinéad O'Connor tearing up the pope's pic on SNL.

The guy at Decca turning the Beatles down in 1962 "because guitar bands are on the way out".
Might not have become what they became, though, because George Martin worked for EMI.

Drugs and alcohol.

I don't know... reminds me of the stand up segment on the end of Tool's Aenima album.... quoting the best I can from memory...

"....see, I think drugs and alcohol have done some good things in our society.....I want you to go home, take all your records, all your CDs, all y our tapes and burn them.....because all those musicians that you have grown to love and cherish......reeeeaaaaallll f****ing high on drugs."

No but seriously, how many great musicians have ended their lives early because of drugs?

Syd Vicious, Jimi Hendrix, dude from Sublime, Jim Morrison, Elvis, .....the list goes on and on.

We have a winner!!!

The Who's general seating comes in second.

Third place would go to the Stones use of the Hell's Angels as security at Altamont...
