Advice needed to paint MDF, speaker stands
« on: 19 May 2006, 05:21 am »
Hi,

Did a search to see how to paint a pair of speaker stands that were custom made by someone else and most steps are way too involve.

I just a few step process and not trying to achieve glossy perfection.

I want a black semi-glossy finish using spray paint to match the speakers base (Gallo Ref3).

Here is what I understand the steps to be, please let me know if it is correct:

 - Spray with primer, mutiple layers
 - Sand with sandpaper, what grit?
 - Do I add more primer after sanding?
 - Spray with the black semi-gloss paint, how many layers?

Also will be screwing a set of feet that is part plastic. I want a continous look so is spraying the plastic ok, will it stick?

Thanks

kkm,

it's been a while but I remember that dave ellis had some instructions on his site for painting stands- he said he got good results from his approach.  you might have to dig around a little to find them:

www.ellisaudio.com

good luck
