guys,
I have decided that to "celebrate" my son's last year at his pre-school, I will do a video and I need some suggestions for music.

This is not my first video in general, I have made 6 or 7, but given my limited library (this is so sad!) I am a bit worried that I am running out of ideas.
Also, any suggestions will, a part from helping for the film, help my library with more good music.

I know this is very difficult, because often times the images will define the best music to go with them, so I am not sure about this "challenge", but I bet I can get a bunch of great stuff that will work. I am already trying to do it myself: I hear a piece of something and I imagine it might work great for some clips (yet to be shot!).

Anyhow, you'll need some help. And here is the idea. The film will be sort of like "one day at XYZ school". I will have shots of variuos instances of such day: school arrival and departure; time in class; time in the outside playground; then I will take a bit of film of the school from outside (intro type of thing) as well as for example my son's classroom when empty, with all the various things hanged on the walls (details especially important). I will also attempt to get each kid's face in a portrait.

As you might know, music often becomes in these things an essential component of the story that one is trying to tell. It is the end of a chapter and a celebration thereof, of 3 great years past.

So lets have some ideas coming !

Oh very important: I tend to use all kinds of music and I mean all (no country though I guess) with a bit of emphasis on classical/opera

thx,

gio

Satie's Gymnopedies, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of Bumblebee, some Raffi, This Land Is Your Land sung by Willie Nelson/Maria Muldaur/Tom Paxton/John McCutcheon (my 4year daughter can't get enough of this song), Pete Seeger (still good after all these years), Carpenters (you know the songs), Puff the MD (could be very appropriate for preschool graduation) are some I can think of off my head.

How high can your son toss a crayon???  I'd surely be tempted to rip off Mel Brooks ripping off Stanley Kubrick...

Gio,

This is a wonderful idea!  I wish the technology was there for my parents do this for me.  I'd love to watch some of my pre-school/grade school videos, but they are on Super 8 film and I don't have a projector, since I was a 70's child.

Your son will thank you a million times over later in life for this.  GREAT IDEA!  How about the traditional graduation march music- "Pomp and Circumstance" by Elgar.

Three CDs I have used a lot for my boys' sports and school videos:

Trip Tease by Tipsy - kooky instrumental lounge, great for shots of kids doing wacky stuff

Is There Love In Space by Joe Satriani - rock guitar driven instrumental, works for action shots of kids doing cool, coordinated activities

Miklos Rozsa: Three Choral Suites by Erick Kunzel  - Ben Hur suite has movements that reflect various moods of granduer and angelic reflection.  Really jerks the tears when used with a sequence of sweet innocent kid snapshots.

Have fun!

Some ideas, varying depending on how serious/fun you want it to be:

My Generation (The Who)

Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio (Claude Bolling)

Ride of the Valkyries (Wagner)

I'm an old Cowhand (Sonny Rollins, Way Out West)

Rush (Big Audio Dynamite II)

Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard (Paul Simon)

Duende (Black Light Syndrome)...ok, not really, but this is an audiophile site, right?

dudes,
thank you all very very much.  Between here and head-fi I have ensured a great w/e of music exploration for something that I am particularly excited about.  This will be great fun.

I am counting on doing the filming this week, it will all depend on the weather though, I want it to be sunny !  But then it will take me quite a bit of time for the editing......

Man, I find what you touched upon a fascinating topic as in How does digital technology affect families and children growth.  I suspect the impact is very significant.  Anyhow, lucky you since at least you've got something :)  I have may be a few pictures (but really few) of my childhood.  I don't mind so much, I just don't have much at all.
