I apologize for what probably are utterly newb type questions in advance.  

I've been reading through the various DIY sheilded power cord threads and I've noticed that there is very few references to PCs for non grounded components like DVDPs, preamps, etc.. Is this because there is little to no  potential for improvement, or are there other reasons for this?
If it's not a total waste of time, I would like to experiment a bit with some Belden 83803 that someone gave me, but I've been unable to find ends other than the three-wire IECs. My universal player (Pioneer DV-79AVI) has what looks something like an IEC input connection for power, but it only has two prongs. Could someone tell me what sort of connectors I need and/or steer me to a site where I might find them?

Hi darwin,

Coupla things:

1. IMO, whatever sonic benefits a "special" PC delivers will be similar in a "normal" 3-wire config or a non-earthed 2-wire config.  In otherwords, it IS worth trying an a non-earthed component.

2. Not ALL preamps are non-grounded.  Mine uses a standard 3-pin IEC chassis socket, and the metal case is earthed to the earth pin on the IEC socket.

3. If your Pioneer has a normal IEC socket but with only 2 pins, you can use a "normal" IEC plug bcoz the missing 3rd pin won't cause a problem (as long as the pin which is missing is the central pin!    ).

Whether Belden 83803 is a good cable to use is something you will just have to find out.
