SB player not found on each boot up
« on: 3 May 2006, 03:37 pm »
Have been running SB3 successfully for a few weeks. This past weekend, I setup a new PC, a Dell Dimension with XP Home. This means I have v 6.2.2, and firmware is 48.

Since the new pc, each morning when I start up the pc and SB, the player is not found. Reading the FAQs on the slimserver, I learned about reinstalling the software. Worked fine once, and I can deal with that, but now I am in day 3 when I am reinstalling the server and it's getting old. While it is easy enough to do, well, why do it instead of fixing what's causing it?

Also have a question re mgalusha's firmware selector utility. Have not isntalled it yet but would like to try; however, don't want to do so until the above problem is fixed. Also, my SB3 is stock and unmodded, so will the firmware change make any difference to the sound? It seems it is relevant only to the modded ones, but it's hard to be sure.

TIA!

I have the same issue, but you don't need to reinstall the software, just stop and restart the softwar.  Right click on the slimserver icon in your system tray and select "stop slimserver".  Once it's stopped, right click again and select "start slimserver".  It only takes two steps and a minute for the system to stop/restart, but yes it is getting old.

Let us know if you find any other solutions.

Thanks for the tip; much better than reinstalling. I might even be able to put up with it for, oh, about 3 days more!

Anyone with a solution don't be shy.

Does it have anything to do with XP's built in firewall?  I know that has to be disabled, in order to connect repeatedly...

No, but guess what...it is A firewall... I have ZoneLabs installed and I set it now to where it allows SlimServer. No problems since doing this last night.
