AUDIO RESEARCH LS-26??
« on: 26 Apr 2006, 03:35 pm »
I am currrently using an Audio Research LS-16 MarkII, which was a huge sonic upgrade from my LS2B. Audio Rsearch claims that the new LS-17 and LS-26 are even better. Anyone have any experience listening to these units; I am wondering if an upgrade to the 26 would really give that much better sound, or just more features, mainly?

I used to work for an ARC dealer but no longer do so  so my reply here has nothing to do with generating sales . I will state however that I run ARC gear at home and am good friends with Dave Gordon of ARC. I have not yet had the pleasure of hearing either the LS17 or LS26 but am well familiar with the LS16 ii, LS25 and Ref 2 and Ref 3. The Ref 3 is one of the best pre's out there. I had the opportunity of having one to play with for about a month and was totally blown away with it's openness and neutral presentation. The new LS26 I believe is built on a very similar architecture to the Ref 3 and is supposed to have a very similar sonic signature. Even though I have not heard it I am quite confident you will be amazed at what it will do in your system. When funds allow I will definately be adding one to my system. Dave Gordon is out of town at the moment but when he gets back give him a call ( the number is on ARCs website) and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to discuss just what the 26 will do in your system.

My system will be offline soon and  for 3 weeks I will not be back on here...till about May 23. If you find anything out, please post it here and I will see it then.
I guess I have about decided to get the 26, but the 16 MKII is such a HUGE sonic upgrade from the LS2B that Ii was kind of worried about that much money for maybe a small upgrade; a lot of bucks for me. AR is sure talking like they think it is a big deal, but they do have a vested interest, lol.
Is Dave the guy that is their "official chief listener"?

Thank you very much for the response.

I can check my e-mail periodically from another computer when I get a chance from the earthlink website if you want to send something...fmartin43@earthlink.net
