Ground loop solution

To rid my system from a rather loud Hum/buzz I had to install a cheater plug on my cd player.I realize the safety implications with the use of the cheater,My question is if I plug the cheater into a three pronged power bar would that protect me from an internal fault in the cd player causing it to become live?

I am also fishing for any solutions or good ideas that any of the members may have. the hum is so bad that without the cheater I cannot listen to it.

What kind of TV Source do you have? If you have cable - disconnect it from your cable box and see if the hum goes away. If it does, I've got something that may be able to help you for <$20.

Well, thanks for the input , some of the ideas I have tried some I have not , I will continue to forge ahead and hopefully I rid myself of this annoying Hum & don"t electrocute myself in the process.

Could not find a way to get the hum out of Direct TV. A Rolls HT8 transformer completely eliminated the hum caused by a gound loop in the satellite system. Jensen makes good transformers also.

I have used the thingy byteme is talking about. Worked in two different systems. It goes on the cable line if you have one.
