In the area i live there is not many to audition other then bestbuy. and things in audio have changed since my last purchase, have not been following audio untill  a short time ago. So any sugestions would be helpfull.I listen to classic rock alot from robin trower to dave matthews. THANKS DENNIS.

I want to let you know that I used to collect Sansui equipment.  Very nice stuff and your JBL monitor speakers are nice too.

I moved this thread from critics circle which is used to review products to the Audio circle where it is more appropriate.

Anyway welcome and I'm sure you will get lots of advice......

Get some Axiom M80Ti's from the Factory outlet.  Super speakers all around, and can take lots of watts with no problem.

www.axiomaudio.com/factoryoutlet.html

The price you see there includes shipping, and there's a 30 day inhome trial.

VMPS 626R's are the best I've heard in a bookshelf speaker (large bookshelf, true 3 way).  For a floorstander I'd look to the RM40's from vmps.

My Dunaudio Audience 50's ($525 on A'gon) played amazingly loud with great bass. Great for music when ability to play loud is a big factor. I have Kestral Hotrods now ($625 w/ damaged veneer on A'gon), has anyone compared these to the Axioms? Try the used market, you can get some great bargains off retail price.

hi beaverd.  In your situation...I would definatly audiotion the speakers (or amp) before you put down any money.

While this is good advice, it's often not practical.  In my immediate area,
I could listen to Sonus Faber, Martin-Logan, B&W, Klipsch, Polk--maybe twelve brands total which really leaves alotta speakers unheard.  The particular speakers I own were a two hour drive away--not too far to buy a pair but quite a distance to drive just to audition something that MIGHT be good.

I think that's one reason people buy so much on Audiogon and eBay--if you get a deal on some used speakers, you can always resell them without much loss if you find they're not to your liking.[/b]

I'm with Tonto on this one. I started buying equipment about a year ago, and because of the ease of reselling pieces I'm on my 5th CD player, 4th amplifier, and 2nd set of speakers. I just read whatever articles and user feedback I could, and took the plunge when I saw something worthwhile.

Hey Tonto...how ya been :)

The main reason I suggest this is that he seems to have been out of the audio scene fer a while...and while there are some great sounding speakers out there nowadays...at a good price....there is also some junk going priced higher than it should.  He also stated he  also wanted something "accurate speaker but with REAL GOOD DYNAMICS".  In his price range there are many speakers that fall well short in dynamics (I'm not talking about simply playing loud)

I just think it would be a good idea to reacquaint himself with what's out there...he may be surprised at how much you can spend and get total crap.  Asking for suggestions at sites like this IS a good idea...but, on many audio sites...you will find someone to recommend almost anything...and possibly something of lesser quality than what he has now.

You guys at AC are pretty good with your suggestions...but I think it's still a good idea for him to check out what's out there today...if possible (of course)

   take care>>>>>

IMO, you are nuts to buy anything new.  You will be extremely happy with either of these:

KEF reference 104/2 (single-wire version)
Vandersteen 2CE

They can both be bought used for around $750.

You will need a good amp to drive these, though.  I would recommend again a used one:

Coda 10.5
Bryston 3B-ST
Musical Fidelity A3CR
Odyssey Audio Stratos (with upgrades)
