We're moving house late this summer and I'm rather excited about what will be my new listening room.
While the ceiling is on the low side (about 7'), and the room itself is not a large one, it is a "mild" rectangle that features built-in bookshelves on the sidewalls and plenty of uneven surfaces.
This home was built in the early 1930's, so the walls are solid plaster and the floor, while technically "suspended" wood, is thick wide plank and has the girth and guts of poured concrete.
I'll also have the opportunity to do something my present room (because of door placement) won't allow. I can move the equipment rack off to a side wall, leaving only the amp (and its short stand) in between the loudspeakers.
The relative smallness of the room doesn't worry me too much, as I'm using a flea powered single-ended amp and single-driver 'speakers anyway.
Perhaps best of all, this room is not above, below or next to any other rooms (meaning bedrooms) and is behind two (two!) sets of double doors. One wood, the other glass. Can you say "High Volume Listening at 2AM?" I can.
To really do things right, I'm having an AC leg run just for that room, so I'll have a dedicated power line.
So am I just boasting? Nope. Truth be told we're actually "downsizing" from our present, very comfortable home and I'm looking for any and all silver linings among the clouds. I'm also looking for any and all listening room wisdom. I'll only have this chance once in life (probably). So any advice, suggestions or warnings would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
