Great time at Tim's house.  Loved the Queen Latifah and Cowboy Junkies cds.  I don't know how anyone will top your curry or your gifts from Audioquest at a future GAS meeting. No gastric distress yet from the "ring-sting" curry. Maybe the Boddington's formed a protective layer?  :D

Some highlights: meeting some new audio guys, bpape grinning like a proud papa about his mention in Stereophile, Tim's mini demo of Jane Monheit, Queen Latifah and Cowboy Junkies to start off the night, cats, Sturgus' caddy becoming a lowrider when we put Willie's 845 amps in the back (my Sophia Baby is smaller than the main transformer on those bad boys), CURRY!!!!!

Thanks for everything and it was great to see all the guys again and talk about music, equipment and just how hot the curry was.

I sure do wish I could have made it last night. Unfortunately my car didn't get finished so I was without wheels. In fact, its still up at Ultimate. With some luck I'll get it back this afternoon. If so Tim, you should be able to hear me all the way out in St Peters

Did anybody take picks?

...and to think I missed all those single malts and free stuff from AQ too boot

Bryan, I just thumbed through the July Stereophile and didn't see your mention. Where is it?

Yes, yes, a splendid time with a most excellent host!

Although not courageous enought to actually sample 'ring-sting' internally, watching the effects on others was priceless!  I've never seen so many quietly 'moist' red faces.   Even the 'mild' (a term validated only by comparison) put some fire in my face for a while.  Grand eating, as varied as our listening pleasures!

Sound was excellent, but alas, I think I spoke more than listened.  Grandly big space I'm jealous of Tim!  But the heck with the space, I want one of those chairs!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Man, I forget the name of it, but I waited TOO long into the night to try the sweet listening seat, and that rascal grabbed my bod and cuddled me well.  The lower back support was soporific!!  "Best Seat in The House' is an understatement!
Tim, can I have it in your will?

Good meeting a couple of new faces and some familiar smiling old ones.  I'm sorry now, I didn't catch the name of the older (than me) fella that you were familiar with Tim.  I'm lousy at names, and should have worked harder.

Glad to see/hear/chat everyone.  'A splendid time was guaranteed by all.'

Nice to get out!  Thanks again Tim!!

Best Regards!!

Thanks to everyone who made it out. I had a great time , I hope everyone else did to. For those of you who didn't make it I will do a repeat performance once I get the new Avalons and run them in. I will post the pics sometime over the next couple of days. I will put the name of all the attendees in a hat and draw out the name of the lucky recipiant who gets the cables donated by Dave Wyatt. My thanks to Steve Shade at Audio Quest for giving us the hats, tote bags, pens and the much coveted binding post wrenches. I still have 4 bags, 3 hats, 2 pens and 3 wrenches left . I'll pass these on to whoever hosts the next meeting. Thanks again guys. :thumb:

Thanks much for the hospitality Tim.  The curry was outstanding - as was the company.  Please pass on my thanks to Audioquest for the perks.

Scott,

Check out Kal Rubinson's Music in the Round Column - I think it starts in the upper 40's, lower 50's.

Well, if you weren't aware, some vehicles can't have their stereo's removed due to its integration in teh cars total electronic system. My Cadi SLS is one of those cars. If you takie the head unit (and amp) out, the car dies. It won't start. in fact I don't think the gage cluster even comes on. The Head unit is tied into the OnStar system so even when you don't subscribe to OnStar and you yank the head unit, the car dies (or so I've been told from several people).

If you've ever heard the sound system in a newer Cadi, you'll know just how bad it sounds (I think the Bose on the radio says it all). Within the past month or two, Rockford Fosgate came out with what they call the 3Sixty.

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=1&series_id=49&family_id=50&item_id=106187&locale=en_US

What this thing does is install between your existing head unit and amp. In turn you run from the 3Sixty to your own amps. What the 3Sixty is, is a true DSP (digital sigtnal processor). You interface with it using a BlueTooth enabled Palm. The DSP handles all of your crossover points (up to 3 way if you want to run three amps for sub, mid and tweets), it also has a 31 band EQ, a separate 10 band EQ for the sub, time delays for each speaker, plus a bunch of other stuff. Heres the feature set from their website
  •    6-channel high-level input
       6-channel RCA level inputs (FR/FL/RR/RL/Center/Sub)
Independent 31-band EQ for Front Left and Front Right
Independent 27-band EQ for Rear Left and Rear Right
       27-band EQ for Center
       10-band subwoofer equalizer
       6-channel HP/LP/BP/AP adjustable crossover
Up to 5 feet of delay per channel in 2 inch increments
Auxiliary RCA input with 31-band adjustable eq
Auto equalization with auto sum capability
Digital Signal Processor with OEM integration capabilities (patent pending)
Remote programmable master volume/aux volume control
       Wireless Bluetooth®

In turn I'm using an older Alpine V-12 (Mosfet not one of the new digital switching amps) to drive a new set of Diamond Audio cab component speakers. I've got a bigger Crunch amp running my sub. I'm using one of my Adire Shiva's (12") in a 2.5cf sealed enclosure.

It ssounds a little harsh right now but I've only got about 3 or 4 hours on the system. I need to give that DSP a solid 200 hours of breakin time before its going to sound good. I'm also going to swap caps on the crossovers with sonicaps. That should help some too.

I'm not looking for slam out of my car (most of the time), I just want some quality sounds. The only way to do that is/was to upgrade. The EQ feature of the DSP is simply kick ass. It let me take that 12db of cabin gain at 50-63 Hz (plus all kinds of other anomolies) and attenuate it where it almost sounds as good as a decent home system. Once I play with the delays and the EQ some more, I'll be able to get a decent soundstage out of it too.

It cost a farging bundle but I'm pretty happy with it. Theres still a few bugs me and the guy at Ultimate are working out but we'll get there. If I'm not mistaken, I think I'm the first install in St Louis of this thing. I know for sure I'm the first at this branch. Thats why I wasn't able to to make it to Tims. They didn't get my car back to me until 3:00 Sunday.

First I would like to give many thanks to Tim for having us over. The curry's were very, very good. I could tell by the sweat on Bryan's forehead  All along I thought I was eating chicken, what was that protein called? It was really good. I really enjoyed the system and the way the room is set up. I like the sound of the ARC more than the Levison. It was a little more natural sounding to me. I guess to be fair though I will have to give it another listen. My car sure did ride smooth after putting those 45's in the back :D handling was much more stable  Mark,I have yet to power them up cause I have to regroup from carrying those babies in the house. I will let everyone know my first impressions. Tim once again thanks for the great time.

had a great time guys- it's enjoyable to talk all things audio with the group and I always seem to come away with something useful.  Tim, what can I say-the Vindaloo was incredible.  :thumb:

The B&W's are beautifully finished and it was nice to be able to hear them in a home environment.  Ok, so you're room is bigger than most audio show rooms but without the 62 acoustic panels.   No offense Bryan-they've worked wonders in my lil' hideaway.

Willie, they sure look interesting and I hope to get a chance to hear 'em.
Congrats Blackmore, nice score on the new source.
Can't wait to hear all the new toys as it sounds like we've all been busy this summer.   :D

hear. I still think your cat could hear everything too!   Now that "Quorn" is part of my vocabulary
I can talk foods again with my vegetarian daugther, Thanks Tim !
I really hope all who would like to test drive the 845's will get their chance, there should time for all
 who would like to.
  Have fun
