Hiya Guys,

Just thought I'd drop a quick note about last weekend. Since my lovely wife was up in Chicago freezing her butt off watching the Cards take it on the chin, I offered to have a few guys over.

Friday Mark (blackmore) and one of the other music teachers (Bruce) from his school decided to drop by. Bruce hadn't heard tubes in a long, long time. We did quite a bit of listening. It was a pretty good mix between the Bolder modified SB with the HagTech Chime and my way back machine (the Opera). From what I could tell, Bruce thouroughly appreciated the magic the system created for us all. Talking to Mark, it seems that most of Bruces disposable income goes towards his boat and lake property. Oh well, we lost out to another expensive hobby, maybe. Bruce mentioned that he was going to set up his old 2 channel rig and do some tweaks to it to make it sound better. So who knows, maybe we'll get another convert one day in the future.

On Saturday, mark@marktwain and Alan (the new guy) came by. This was another music hang. Alan is still on his quest trying to figure out what he wants out of his system. The Fleapowered rig gave him another option to think about though I doubt he'll travel down the SET road. Thats OK, with his room, he defiantely needs more power, unless we could talk him into some big farging Altecs.

Mark on the other hand is drowning in SETs and single drivers. The evening was spent (mostly) spinning vinyl. After turning the guys onto some cool blues they hadn't heard before like Keb Mo, Mark Selby, Robben Ford, plus a few other assorted bluesmen, Mark and I dug into the Classic Rock. We played stuff like Stone Temple Pilots, lots of Rush, Angel, Rory Gallagher, Tommy Bolins, Black Sabbath, The Amboy Dukes, Santana, and lots of others I can't remember.

We had a great time playing the music WAY too loud. Granted it wasn't on the same level as the Big Fun System but it was damned loud (and far cleaner) than the BFS. In fact Mark mentioned that he'd never seen my 15" Goodmans move before. Well, they got one heck of a workout Saturday. In fact, playing the new Cream Live at Royal Albert Hall (recorded last October at teh reunion concert) on vinyl, Ginger Baker does this 10 minute drum solo in slow motion. At one point Ginger's hammering his twin kick drums and in mid conversation we all immediately stop talking and look at the speakers as if the system is yelling "HEY, PAY ATTENTION". It was kinda funny.

Anyway, I thought I'd drop a post to let everybody know what went on.

Enjoy the great spring weather!

Hey Scott!

Sounds like you had some quality listening time!
I'm getting a lot of playtime with my SB3, and I even get to sit down to listen to about every 4th album.     How long are you going to be listening to the Chime?  I'm having a brainfart, but did you have the digital side of your SB worked on too, or is it basically 'stock'?  I'm really getting worked up about a 'mod' on mine.
I continue to be amazed at how good mine sounds now on my Bryston/Epiphony rig.  (I think the Altec system is a little too resolute, and some of the 'zits and blemishes' show up.)
It sure has made it easier to play more music than anything I've done in a while...

Ah, I think a pair of these would flesh Alan's room out real purdy.

You'd love 'em Alan.  Really.

Stick around us; we can get you spend ALL your money.

Best Regards,
DeadFish

I pm'd this to Scott and decided to post it here also.

A big thanks once again for having me over Saturday night. I truly enjoyed Alan's and your company and the great tunes, they triggered quite a number of flashbacks. 8)  Your system sounds just absoutely wonderful! I fired up my 2-channel rig Sunday morning and I felt like throwing it in the hopper after listening to yours but I didn't. I'll be happy if I can get it sounding half as good as yours (well maybe, but probably not). Also thanks to the intro to all the new blues. I'm going to have to get some Keb Mo, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and Count Basie to add to my inventory.

Yeah, I've listened to Scott's system pretty loud before and I don't recall the Goodmans ever movin much at all but Saturday night I thought they might jump right off their baffle's. I've never heard Rush's Tom Sawyer sound so good except maybe at the R30 tour at Riverport!

Hiya Bill,

I should have the Chime around for another two or three weeks. It's finally, fully broken in. My Bolder SB3 has the both the digital and the analog mods. If you want, you could bring your stock one over and we could listen to the differences. Drop me a note and we can get together if you want.

Hi Scott,

Thanks again for having me out.  Had a great time meeting Mark and hearing all of your great sounding gear.  The amount of albums you have to select from is simply amazing.  I have only a few albums stuck away in the store room, but would love to have that that fabulous turntable of yours setup in my system.  I could at least watch it spin while I placed my SB3.
Seems that as I begin to gain even a little knowledge with this hobby, the confuseder (new word) I get.  We all know how dangerous a little knowledge can be.
Kinda pressed for time the next week or 2 with taxes, car trouble, etc, but will have to think about what direction to try next with my system.

They look good to me Bill, but I don't think I better suggest them to the BIG BOSS.  :nono:  I think I have a pretty good idea what might happen to me.  :whip:  :guns:

Heh, heh, hehh...

I understand Alan, I really do.  I have one of those also who has taken some good natured torture along the way, and been quite kind.
The day I unexpectedly had 2 Altec 19s (little brothers to the ones in the picture!) in the center of our 13' square living room, blasting when she got home comes instantly to my mind.  And me grinning like a racoon 40' away next to the street in a lawn chair with a beer insisting they sounded good...
Yeah, you cannot see the marks in my forehead now at all...

Gotta keep 'em happy!!

Bill

PS (but if you show her some Dali Megalines first, she might really like those!) heheheheh
