Evolution of my stereo continues.

Well, in my continuing saga of the ever evolving stereo, I came across a Jolida 801A which seems to be in good shape. I should have it Sunday. My interest in the new Omega XRS is drifting away. No matter how impressive the bass is for a 4 1/2" full range driver, it's still a 4 1/2" full range driver. I like deep bass and I can't imagine the beautiful little Omega would be able to deliver it in a large room. What I believe I really want is a large, full range floorstander. I have the room for it so I might as well use it. I can spend upwards of $2500 or so but have no problem spending less. Today, I'm thinking about Klipsch RF7's, the new $1300 Revel model or possibly that monster Wharfdale that Audio Advisor sells. Anything else out there in my price range that will give honest 30hz extention and mate well with the 70wpc Jolida? Music is mostly classical played mostly on vinyl. Thanks!

If you have any DIY skills at all, and would really like honest 30hz (and better) extension, check out the Exodus 2641.

At $2050 built, I'm confident it will compete with either of the other speakers you're considering.

I don't remember which Klipsch Reference Series model I heard not long ago, but I was impressed for the $1500 charged for it. The hi-frequency's sounded less 'boxed-in /shouty' than I've found horns to be in the past.

The resolution was tremendous thru those metallic and ceramic doped woofers. I think it was the RF-63...as it had 3 woofers (and played deeply)

Hi-90's efficient, too.

For that price and maybe even cheaper, and if you don't mind buying used, I don't see how you can do much better than Silverline Sonata. A pair of Sonata I's just went for $1800 on AG. For the sound, this is an absolute steal!! I've been seeing Sonata 2's in the 2100 to 2400 range.

I have heard the Sonata many times, in many setups, and I gotta believe it will just destroy the other speakers you mention. You will definitely get full range sound with deep bass, a midrange that is clear, present, and lucid, and an overall presentation that is coherent, full, warm, engaging, and completely fatigue-free. And they just love tubes....even low power ones!

I think Zybar had a pair for sale. You might wanna check with him.

The Sonata II's sounded great with little 18 watt single ended triode amps. Very tube friendly at 95 db's and an 8ohm load.

I have personal experience with them, but perhaps you might check out those big Gallo speakers. I know they sell them down at Jolida, but I don't know whether or not they stock them. They MSRP for 2800, so it might be right in your ballpark and you could hear them with jolida power without leaving the store.
