SB3 Breaking Up (Only Sometimes) UURRGH!!!
« on: 4 Apr 2006, 05:20 pm »
I moved recently. In my last place, the SB3 was performing flawlessly in a wireless installation.

Then I moved, upgraded my Linksys router to a G-based from a B-based and now every other day, my SB3 starts playing the first 4-5 seconds of a song and then plays with breaking up audio.  The frustrating part is that on some days it plays just fine and others it is unusable.

Any suggestions? TIA!

Sounds like the buffer is slow to fill up - are you working with a low wireless %?

Mine does this on start up some days too, always has, but after 30 seconds, it works flawlessly for the rest of the session.

I usually listen to 20-30 seconds of stutter, then hit the back arrow, to restart the song, and it works great there on out.

Do you see a big drop in signal strength when this happens.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Sorry for the dumb question but how do you check your buffer status/options and how do you check your network strength?

Hah, if that is a dumb question... then I am really in trouble, since I can only answer half of it!

To see what your signal strength is, you can scroll over to Player Information, and scroll down through the various screens, until you reach Signal Strength - it will display a %.

I am seeing around 30-40% in my basement, far from the Linksys router, but it only causes concerns while the buffer is filling.

As for viewing the buffer, I am not sure how to see that...

Sounds like you may have interference from another wireless user.  You might try changing the chanel on your router.

This would explain why you had no problems until the move.

Is there a microwave oven anywhere nearby? I used to have an old media player connected to a wireless bridge in my livingroom. Everytime the microwave kicked in, my music would stop. I eventually ran network cable through the attic into my living room because I was sick of the poor performance of wireless networks.

I think Rashiki is on to something. I have the same problem when I run our microwave. Could be your neighbors if you are in an apartment. 2.4 GHz wireless phones can also cause problems. Try changing to channel 1 or 11 (or anything other than what you have now).

Yea, that has crossed my mind. I have CAT5 wiring to my listening room but I want to also use the SB3 wirelessly in my living room and in my backyard by the pool.
