Firefox agony- help!
« on: 1 Apr 2006, 06:24 am »
WTF! :x  :?   I rebuilt my internet PC with a new MoBo, reinstalled window, etc etc last nite.  All is well except Firefox.  For whatever friggin' reason, my MS wireless 5 button mouse doesn't work right.  I have the smaller top side button configured to "close" and the bottom side set to "back."  Well, both do what they're supposed to in MY DOCUMENT folders, and when browsing the net in IE, but the damned "close" button won't work in FF! :x

Any advice?

Plus, I can't seem to fix the damn scrolling.  Smooth scrolling is enabled, but things are still choppy and the slightest touch of the wheel moves about 5 lines.  And it keeps scrolling well after I stop rolling the wheel.  I never had any of these problems before.  And yes, I uninstalled the mouse and reinstalled it, although I haven't tried doing that with FF.

Have you checked the battery on your wireless mouse lately? :)

Well, the "test" says it's good but it's worth a shot.

It's most likely the mouse driver mappings. I have a Logitec USB wireless mouse that behaves in the same manner. If I don't install the drivers and just use the native drivers in XP then it behaves as expected, if I use the drivers so I can get the extra functionality my back button stops working. In the Logitec drivers you can customize the buttons for specific programs. For Firefox I had to tell it to send a keyboard backspace for the "back" button. Not sure if the MS mouse works the same way but it may be similar.
