JVC 201 for my brother's Birhtday? Advice please!

Hi,

My brother Birthday is coming soon Apr. 17th to be exact. :D

He is not a crazy audiophile like me  But he knows a good sound when he see one and listen to me when is come to buy audio stuff. Hmmm... I guess he is a bit of an audiophile now.

Anyway, currently he is using a small all-in-one JVC mini system. But with Acoustic Energy Aegis 2 that I helped him buy a few years ago :D Nice little speaker especially at the close out price and work well with the mini-system.

Okay... but 2 weeks ago my brother told me that he is thinking of getting some thing nicer like a new reciever. And asked me to look for him.

So, I'm thinking getting  one for his B'day. Since I've been using the JVC F10 for a while now and it work and sounds great. :D I was thinking of getting something like it. The new 201 seem to fit the bill. But I have been reading some older posts about the 201 realiabilty and it doesn't sound good to me. :? Since it had been out for a while now, do you think this would have been solved already?

Anyway, any feedback about the 201 on it sound, realiabilty and how its compare to my older F10...  especially from a real user would be greatly apriciated.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I went through 2 of them--both blew up. I haven't heard anything about JVC fixing the problems so I'd stay away. Get a Panasonic instead.

That's too bad.  I was sorta thinking of getting one to replace my Griffin PowerWave at the PC.  Since the JVC has a USB input it would be perfect.  But not if they don't last. :?

Hey!

Hmmm.... that dosen't sound good :?

Maybe I could find the older F10, the same one that I have now or the ES1SL. Or I could give him the F10 I have now than I get myself the older ES1 that some says sound better in 2ch than the F10. Or to make it easy I just give him $100

  Anyway, thanks guys.

Take care,

Wow! ES1 and two 201 :o I guess I'm lucky that I have the F10 and the thing is working fine. :D

I think I will just have to give him money in an envelope than. So, he could save up for something like NAD.

Saving up for NAD would make good sense

To all,

I've been using NAD 2-ch integrated amps in my stereo system for the last 9 years.

For 7 years I used the NAD 304 to power a pair of Cambridge Soundworks Model Six.  I then briefly upgraded to a pair of Linn Index Speakers driven by the NAD C320BEE.  My final setup is the NAD C372 driving a pair of VMPS RM40s.

Point is that the NAD int amps are a great value and many of their dealers sell below list price.
