How many people have spare components laying around to use for an emergency ?
Last week my Anthem pre blew a fuse , I didn't have any extra fuses on hand and I wanted to find the cause anyway before using again . On the other hand I didn't want to go without music either . I was lucky to have an MF XP-100 ( rarely used in a headphone system ) to plug into my system . It was sort of cool to have a diffferent sound ( ss vs. tubes ) for a while . Not necessarily an improvement nor a detriment ( more sideways than up or down ) the MF got me through until the Anthem was fixed ( just a bad tube ).
I had almost decided on selling the MF not too long ago , now I'm glad I didn't .

No Woofie, you're very well prepared... kinda like those 50's/60's bomb shelters, have 6 of everything  :rotflmao:

I must have 15-20 fuses of all amperages... just not the one I need for Woodsyi's power switch... I think it's a GDC type???   :x

I noticed my system sounds better now after I changed the tube . Will an old tube degrade the sound or do they perform normal right up until the day they die ?

I do keep spare tubes for all my tubed equipment.  Actually, whatever came with it goes in the spare drawer and I generally try the tubes that were recommended for rolling.
Tubes do degrade over time but generally at such a slow rate that I for one never notice the change until I try out some new ones.  Then I remember that I haven't changed them for a long time and damn, that sounds better or at least different.

Actually for me,I set up a second system in the cellar and found it to be just as much fun. Jbl 200 studio masters- marantz 2380 reciever and cheapo cd player.... If I get frustrated or have problems with the A-system I can always go downstairs and just let it loose with out being critical.Just have fun!

I am no Lonewolf, but I do have a couple of spares around at present...

2 sets of speakers
1 extra amp
1 extra source
several sets of IC's
several sets of speaker cables

In the end, I guess I could probably set up 2 more whole systems, but for the WAF factor!

Oh well, it sure is easier to store than the old days...

2-3 sets of spare wheels
2-6 spare engines
2-7 spare frames
various exhaust, carbs, fairings, lights, and seats

Audio spares as SO much easier to store, than motorcycle spares!
