Recording from bugle?

Line/rec (fixed level) out seems to be omitted from this design. I was wondering if such an output was available from the board itself, I could at least shoehorn a mini stereo phone jack somewhere on the back panel. I am digitizing a lot of my analog music and require a fixed level output from even a minimalist design. Looks like an interesting project though. Welcome any comments.

I'm not understanding what you are asking.  The rca outputs from BUGLE are indeed line level.  Why can't that work for you?

I thought it was clear. OK, I'll try again... On outputs to a power amp, when you change the volume control, the audio output level changes, which means that if you have some recording device connected to those outputs, changing the volume setting will change the level on the recording media. A fixed level output will stay the same level regardless of the volume setting. The normal line level WILL work- as long as you don't disturb the volume control during the recording AT ALL (for example, turning it down to take a phone call).) A second, fixed-level output would also eliminate the need to manually connect and disconnect the recording device and power amp every time you wanted to record something. Does this clarify my question?

No volume control on the BUGLE.

Any phono amp can drive a recording device direct. The record level would be set by the recording device. It's not too hard to do. Even I can do it. You don't have to use a pre-amp record loop function, if that's what you mean.

Guess I'm confused also.

I think he's just looking to have two outputs so he doesn't have to swap cables to go from recording to playing on his system.  If this is the case, why not split the output or put a switch on the output?

No wonder everybody is confused... I confused the Bugle with the Oboe. Boy is my face red...

The OBOE does not have a tape loop output (which is what you would like).  You can add extra outputs, take them from the phono section directly, prior to the volume control stage.

Would that give me the line level sources too, or would that be a different connection? Could I make a parallel connection to the output side of the selector switch?

Yes, if you take the feed from the output of the selector switch.

Thanks Jim. Sorry about the confusion I created earlier. I am getting the urge to build something, and Van Alstine has just left the kit business, so I was thinking about this retro-utilitarian little preamp. Hard to believe there's hardly any kit audio anymore.
