Question about the Ultra designs
« on: 21 Mar 2006, 04:58 am »
Just got done reading the new newsletter, including info about the new Ultra designs.  Well done to Frank, and all involved with the new product, and the newsletter.

One question.  Did I miss something, or are the new designs "Hybrid" only?  Is the OmegaStar EC solid state preamp going to be upgraded to "Ultra" status?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

All of our products, including the OmegaStar amplifiers, preamplifiers, DAC, and inverter, are being moved to the new big chassis with the new black and gold graphics.  The small SL chassis is out of production now.  Kits are gone because it will not be cost effective to write new kit instructions for the big chassis for them all, not enough kit demand.

Of course our upgrade kits for Dyna Pas and St-70 and Pat-5 units remain available.

There are minor upgrades to some of the OmegaStar units in the move to the big chassis process, but nothing major or requiring any upgrades to existing units, mainly for production capabilities.  The OmegaStar solid state units remain outstanding performers in their class and are probably underpriceded, as the new review of our much of our Ultra equipment will tell you.

That is indeed very sad to hear. I built AVA's power supply board for my DH200, a line buffer, and a Super PAS 4i preamp. Unfortunate that there are not enough people interested anymore. Except for my AVA power amp, I built every amp/preamp I ever owned. It added to my enjoyment in an intangible way (as well as saving me money I spent on records). Who does that leave making moderately priced but high performance kit audio? I cant think of anybody right off the bat.

I wonder if the larger chassis will make it possible for AVA to reconsider an integrated amp?

ahh..an integrated amp in the larger chassis..maybe a possibility??

limited inputs; say, maybe (3) plus a tape-loop? (buffered, of course) a 170ex amp section? no balance control or mono switches? no headphone amp?

on the left: a selector switch. next: the tape loop toggle. next: the volume pot. and on the right: the power switch. cool.

:shh:  a giant killer in the making...
