I did a preliminary search on this months ago. Here are some links that you might find useful.                                                                                          http://audacity.sourceforge.net/  http://www.recordcollectorsguild.org/

There were more, but I can't find them right now. I found these doing a search on Yahoo and Google. I don't know anyone who has used any such software, but this is on my project list maybe in a year or so. Good luck

Kind of on the same line... is there a way to directly connect a turntable to a PC and turn it into a digital output?

I have analog inputs (I think) on my soundcard and would like to take that input, convert it to digital, and then send that out to a DAC... (actually, a TacT digital preamp.)

Anyone seen that done?  ;)

edit... I did find this: http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-ART-USBPHONOPLUS--m-11_26--d-2.html#
Kind of neat..

Plus! Super pack should work fine. Microsoft has a tutorial on this subject. It's on their website under Windows media player.

Hello Guys

Being analog 'n all that with a few thousand vinyl records and many tt's and other stuff to use for really good sound, I still had a problem in that I could not play any of my favourite vinyl music in my cars as there I only have CD players. Despite being mostly clueless when it comes to computers, I nevertheless recently installed software called MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab/10 on my computer with which I'm happy with.

I've made many CD's with sound quality often better than professionally made CD's bought in stores.

I get this good quality sound using one of my Garrards 301's, a homebrewed mc cartridge, amplified by my Nagatron HA-9000 dc powered phono pre and equalised by a Kenwood Basic C1 control amp and using good quality cabling and interconnects.

Being a fiddler by nature (who isn't in this hobby?), I read up a bit on the bogstandard soundcard which came pre-installed on my computer when I bought it, and thought that maybe here was another tweak which I could do.

I did not want to make too many radical soundcard changes and yesterday, bought something called Edirol UA-1EX USB Audio Interface, which is now successfully installed and ready to use with the MAGIX recording software.

Has anyone any experience with this outboard device? Do you think I will improve on the quality of recording to CD  or have I wasted the bucks?

I am sure the sky is the limit when it comes to soundcards and there will be many better solutions and products but do you think the Edirol would be a good intermediate step upwards from the Realtek AC97 soundcard I've been using until now?

Cheers
