Just finished mounting my center in a most peculiar place. I had no alternative and it ended up sounding quite good even though it is quite a big higher than my mains. It is an unfortunate situation but really sounds quite good nonetheless.

The ceiling before I tore into it... making my first slice.

Checking the accuracy...

Bam! AV2 securely mounted in it's new home. Still have to trim it out though. I sealed the port losing the lower end but I have a good sub and cross them over at 60hz anyway. There will be an IB sub in the near future directly behind the center above the plasma. That's a big hole yet to come!

Very nice... a little trim to tidy the edges and you'll have a very custom look.

Darren great Idea.
How did you line up the tweeter to your listening position?

Yup, a little trim to go and it should look great. I'm gonna go for white trim so it matches the ceiling rather than the speaker.

I lined the tweeter up by taking a string from the ceiling and having my wife hold it at ear level from the listening position. She pulled it tight and I used an angle gauge to get the angle the string created. I then cut the hole and built a platform in the attic that matched the outside angle. Took a few hours of hiking into the attic and back into the garage to refine my cuts but it was worth it.

Smart!
Just asking as I know a few people who have been looking at this kind of idea and the question would come.

Well done.

Thanks :)

I'll be installing a 15" quad IB in the attic next. I figure it should create sufficient bass for my needs! I still need to build my AV1RS kits which should happen in the next week or two. Pulling wire for those now. I think my current AV2 surrounds will end up in my garage for a while. Don't want to damage them though so that might not happen, maybe in the office!

Ahem, WHAT?  Yes, that should take care of any bass concerns!
