Leaving tomorrow for Montreal / new product
« on: 20 Mar 2006, 10:17 am »
OK guys,  I'll be leaving Tuesday for Montreal (Road trip.  Oh yeahhhhhhhhhh,  rocking out,  hehehe).

We're having 2 rooms on the 9th floor of the Delta,  925/927  I think ???

Anyway,  room 1 will have the pictures with a smaller system,  and room 2 will have the Loreleis with Stratos Monos and a VPI SSM  table with a vdHul Colibri front end.

Now,  guess I can already let the rat out of the sock:

we're having a world-premiere of the first of a completely new product line this weekend:

A kick ass tube pre amp for $ 895.  in the classic Tempest look with open front - glassed  exposed tubes.

Hope to see some of you guys.  Anybody coming ????

Late,

Klaus

SWEET!   :P

This is what I am looking for.  Been considering (and saving) for a Modwright, deHavilland.....considered the Tempest, but really wanted to get some tubes in the chain.

More info please.....

Mmmmm...YUMMY.  An Odyssey tubed pre!  This could be the one thing to get me interested in something other than my deHavilland!

Does it have a MC/MM stage, like the current Tempest? Can Tempest owners pay to have their respective unit modded to the tube pre?

The circuit design is based on a classic “Current Source Loaded Grounded Cathode Amplifier (mu-follower), using a pair of ECC82/12AU7 (one per channel) tubes. The circuit has been specifically designed for ultra-wide frequency response, linearity, low distortion and low output impedance. It operates in a Class-A single ended configuration with no feedback.

Key Features

·   Vacuum Tube single ended stages
·   Low output impedance
·   Class A gain stages
·   Zero feedback
·   Low current design
·   Relay-controlled input selector
·   Power supply rectification using ultra fast-soft recovery “Stealth” Diodes.

Circuit Specifications

         Tubes         ECC82/12AU7 (2)
         Gain         14dB
         Frequency Response   10Hz  - 500kHz
         Input Impedance   >100k Ohm
         Output Impedance   10k Ohm
         Inputs         Four (4)
         Input Voltage      120V/240V (50Hz/60Hz)
         Size         18(W) x 8(D) x 4(H) inches
16 lbs

All I can say is that I love that thing,  especially for the money.  The tubes are barely warm,  it doesn't have the classic problems of tubes such as frequency range restrictions or slow bass control,  and is in fact very fast and very,  very neutral. ( that thing is going way up there in the range,  in energy)  Still has pure emotional and 3 D  qualities, just with a more neutral rather than classic tube signature.  I love it,  what can I say?  And those who know me are aware of the fact that I don't just take on products for the sake of marketing. (hell,  look at our digital prototype of nearly 2 years.  It's still digital,  and doesn't meet my "emotional orgasm"  criteria.  Of course there are folks who like this digital sound,  and it would be so easy to be another manufacturer using $ 30.  modules in  a $ 900. amplifier,  but that is not me.) It has to float my own boat,  and it has to be stellar in price / performance,  or it's a no-go.  After all,  I have way too much to loose here with my reputation if it wouldn't.

As for production and sales,  all I can say that you guys are completely nuts,  my friends.  I posted this when ?  Less than 12 hours ago ?  Already have 9 confirmed orders,  sight unseen.  Aaaaargh.   We're looking at a realistic 6-8 weeks before we can ship in bulk,  mostly because of vendor lead times.

Anyway,  thanks for your interest,

Klaus

All of my available spending funds seems to end up going to odyssey audio, but thats a good thing =)  Whats a little money when you can have sonic nirvana.

Forgot to mention on the parts quality:

Sonic caps,  Vishay's,  Vishay Dubl. /  Cornell Dubliers,  Fairchild's,  matched tubes, Groneberg wiring and Groneberg hi-tech solder,   and our massive all metal case and machined knobs.

I'm interested.  Here are my questions:

1)  Is there an optional remote control?
2)  Is two sets of outputs an option?
3)  Is there an optional HT bypass.  If so does the unit need to be on for the bypass to work?
4)  Will there be a trade in or modification program for current Tempest owners?
5)  How does it sound with mono extremes?  If the output impedance of the tube pre is 10k Ohm and the input impedance of the extreme monos is 10k Ohm (I think), does that mean they are not a good match?
6)  Is it a step up or step down from the Tempest?

$900 for a tube preamp that is made in USA? That's an awsome deal.
Reserve one for me too please, Santa Klaus. :thankyou:
