I did break down and buy this one! BB has it for $17 in widescreen.  Nemesis pretty much rocked, although IMO it can't touch First Contact.  I'd rate it in about the same league as Insurrection, which is to say pretty darned good.

It pisses me off that BB hasn't put the 2 disc spec ed "The Mission" on sale yet. :x   What's with those guys lately, are they allergic to sales?

:o wow talk about a different perspective :o  i thought it was a bore-just watched it , its one of those tube -ss type of things i guess  it had potential with the romulun moon men but the clone crap was well crap, long winded scenes, not the greatest sound track either(if lotr is a 10 this is a 5-6 )it could have been done for tv as a 2 parter. :thankyou:

Well, I liked it, but I did have a lot of criticisms of it, truthfully.  Some of these are problems I had with the storytelling aspects and some come from being a bit of a Trek-geek.

Firstly, the bubble-lipped guy they got to play the Picard clone didn't faintly resemble him.  And Picard at that age had a full head of hair.  Worse yet, if you can make Romulans and Klingons convincingly with makeup, how come they couldn't hide the five o'clock shadow on his head?

Of course, there are other problems.  How many other models of Data are out there?  You can't whip it out and take a leak without hitting a Soon-designed android anymore!  And when Picard asked Jordie whether he could track the Scimitar, since when would he just say, essentially, "Fuck it sir, I'm stumped", and go back to his sandwich?

Sure, the movie has its flaws, but I'm just a sucker of STTNG.  Unless they totally screw the pooch, I'm gonna watch it.  But on the upside, it was a little edgier and more suspensefull than usual, and if some characters were basically ignored, Picard, Data & Ryker were well written.  And there's some action in this one, unlike the morbidly dull "Generations".  Good effects, too.

I wouldn't recommend it for non-trekkie types, and it wouldn't be the one I'd suggest you start with if you haven't seen any of the others, but I enjoyed it.

I'd have to say I'm with Rob on this one.

But I saw Nemesis for the first time in a theater that's pretty damn good sounding when it's running right. It was running properly in DTS that day, and they cranked it up as asked (gotta love getting it loud enough in a theater nowadays... ). So the presentation was fairly exceptional as far as 35mm presentations currently go.

I feel the need to elaborate on Nemesis a bit:  first and foremost, it needed to be Star Trek, first and a good movie second.  I say this because probably 95% of the people who saw the movie in the theatre  were fans of the series.  Therefore there's a shorthand that the writer can fall back on.  For instance, we had 7 years of TNG and several movies to examine the sometimes humorous manner in which Data doesn't quite "get" human behavior, so we don't need to explain to the audience again that he's an android.

My main criticisms of Nemesis after watching it again are mainly that they almost completely ignore many of the cast members:   Dr. Crusher only has about 10 lines, Riker has minimal face time, Jordie is just there long enough to be flumoxed by the Scimitars inpenatrable cloak, etc.  Hell, I didn't even notice Wesley Crusher the first two times I saw it!  Not that the latter is a bad thing...

Also the writing is a little lazy, and the characters aren't completely consistent with their previous portrayals.  The in dux machina transporter failures, the inability of Jordie to track the Scimitar, etc- several parts were really forced.

Lastly, the DVD has 7 deleted scenes; I think that 6 of them shouldn't have been cut.  Had they not, it would have been a very different and much better movie.

Still, I did enjoy it, although I admit that even tho it pains me to say it, I hope it truly is the last TNG movie.  Sure, I'll go see it if they make another, but I hope they stop before they really do release a stinker that drags the franchise thru the mud.

I watched it today, and like it's already been said it has flaws.
But I wasn't in the mood to be to critical of the movie, so I turned it up
and enjoyed  :)
