System finally up in the new house

As you can see, I don't have any room treatments up yet and there are still boxes everywhere.

I hope to really start working on things (room treatment, speaker and listener placement, etc...) over the coming weeks.

Is that a new power conditioner? Hang in there with the moving. Having done it nine times I know what a PITA it is.

Yup, out of the basement. The basement will be strictly for HT as I try and have two independent systems.

That's my old Monster AVS2000. Figured I would use it in the two channel rig for a bit since the HT isn't up and I don't have my dedicated lines run yet.

The room looks good; you’re be tweaking for a while. And it might not be a bad idea to turn things around (no windows in-between the speakers).

Pete,

If I flip it around I would have four windows to the left and a door opening to the right.

Either way, I can do whatever I like to these rooms short of major construction.

Blinds and curtains will be coming in the next few weeks as well as all my room treatments.

Congrats on the move (nice room), seems like most of the hard work is done.

Actually, the lack of corner behind the left speaker may not be a bad thing. It will prevent bass build up/emphasis/distortion to a greater degree than a bass trap could. So long as you place a bass trap in the corner behind the right speaker, to prevent bass build up there and thereby keep things symmetrical, it could be quite a good room. As you said, the curtains will minimise higher frequency reflections from the windows, and your other treatments will balance the room nicely.

An unusual or non-standard layout doesn't automatically create problems.

My room is somewhat similar in that I too have a staircase on the left side.

My staircase is in front of the baffle while George's is behind. As another poster said, it can actually help reduce bass overload in the corners. My speakers are very full range, yet I have no bass boom, bloat or overhang at all. And this is without any acoustic treatments whatsoever!

Whether the open staircase is creating some kind of a "pressure valve", or something...I can't say for sure. Maybe some other room dynamic is at work. I dunno. Whatever the reason, I consider myself very lucky to be getting such good sound in the absence of any treatments.

One way to delay higher (beaming) frequency reflections is to skew the layout on an angle (to force multiple reflections before reaching your ear). Might help in a non-symetrical room.

Okay, I finally have "some" room treatments up:

The 6 Realtraps Minitraps + 8thNerve Corners are absolutely making a nice impact.

Next is to take some measurements for the TacT.

The SB is actually sitting on the Running Springs Audio Haley power conditioner, which you can't see from the angle I took the picture at.

I will be putting up blinds later this week and probably some window treatments as well. That will help reduce reflections off the glass.
