AVA amp and preamp mods

I know AVA's policy about not modding their equipment, but I am curious if owners have modded the rear connectors, internal wiring and IEC/Powercon
plugs. Please PM me if you do not want to post via public forum    Thanks

They don't care if you mod it or not. Just don't then try to sell it as pristine AVA equipment, don't try to send it in under warranty if it has problems, and don't electrocute yourself or something. :)

The rear connectors, internal wiring, and power cords are fine on AVA equipment. Who's been telling you they need to be modded?

Did you know that you'll get better gas mileage if you completely re-wire your car with Cardas wire? Try it, it really works. It increased my gas mileage by 4 MPG!!

Nobody told me it would be better and I wasn't trying to fan any flames.     There are a lot of folks who believe in these changes. I also wanted to know if anyone had made all those changes and then compared them to a stock unit. Just was curious...that's all.

NGK or ND platinum plugs. The Bosch platinum plugs don't seem to last as well.

It's not going to make a major difference though, and I'd just recommend you buy whatever brand is readily available. Sticking with the OEM part is also fine.

I do recommend that you pull your plugs and put a tiny bit of Never-Seize on the threads. Stuck plugs are not a fun thing. :) A bit of dielectric grease on the boots can make it easier to take them off in the future too, as well as avoiding problems with arcing.

Hmmm.... are teflon-insulated spark plug wires better? hehe

Newer AVA stuff all in new chassis has gold plated connectors.  Older AVA equipment - e.g., based on Dynaco or Hafler Chassis - will not have gold plated connectors unless the purchaser specifically ordered same.  If you think gold connectors make a better connection (and it certainly will in time as it does not corrode) then upgrading your connectors (if they are not already gold) may make a difference.

I don't quite see how replacing internal wiring will make a difference.  And if you've looked inside an AVA unit, you'll see that the workmanship is beautiful.

I also don't see how replacing plugs will make a difference either.  Assuming equipment has a properly designed and well constructed power supply (which is abundantly true of AVA stuff), I just don't see how anything prior to the power supply will make any difference unless it is defective.

If you have an early AVA unit and are itching to make improvements, Frank sells a number of kits.  Also, for some of the early units there might be some small changes Frank's made in production runs that you could apply, e.g., better performing op amps, etc.
