Modifying a BPT 1.0
« on: 13 Mar 2006, 07:38 pm »
I have a BPT 1.0 I think it is with a 7.5 amp transformer, upgraded litz wiring, and some other upgrade which escapes me the moment.  What I do know is that I want to modify the unit a bit.  Currently the capacitors being used across the outlets are some red el cheap's.  I would like to upgrade those to auricaps.  I have also read quite a bit about replacing the outlets and might as well do that while I am at it.  I was thinking of going with Hubbell outlets as opposed to the leviton ones that are in there.  Good idea or any reccomendations as to an alternative.  Finally, I would really like to change transformers and add the diycable rfi filter into the signal path.  Can I change to a higher rated transformer without changing anything else?  I would love to plug me LCD TV in, but 7.5 amps isn't going to cut it for that purpose.  Thanks for the help.  Any other ideas are greatly apreciated.

If you are bybee believer, you can install them on the input and output side.   It gets expensive exponentially.

I remember Chris Hoff saying that he built a 3.5 special order for somebody that had the bybees both at the input and output of the transformer... he didn't feel that the output was very beneficial.

The sig. series of BPT's have several layers of ERS on the wiring and transformer housing... and small patches on the recepticles.  The 6moons review of the 3.5 sig. has some nice pics of the internals...

Might think about getting some SS  or Silclear contact enhancer rather than swapping out recepticles...

Several months ago I picked up an older BPT 2 from AudioGon at a great price. Wanted to add balanced power for my up-stairs second system.

The unit had a nasty looking power cord hard wired in. Was done at the factory. Was stiff and looked like some type of aluminum wire.

Here is what I did.

1. Added damping material inside the case.
2. Hard wired in a new power cord of Cryo Belden 19364, with a Furutech rhodium plug.
3. Removed the outlets and replaced with cryo Hubble outlets - four in total.
4. Added 6 Auricaps .47uf 600V - Two across the hot & neutral incoming lines & one on each outlet.
6. Wrapped the incoming internal lines with ERS cloth. Put a thin strip of ERS on the back of each outlet. Just glue in place with hot glue gun.
7. Left the factory installed caps.

All in all, have been very pleased with results.
