Has anyone tried a foam product like Sonex over rigid fiberglass panels? Seems like it would look cool (I happen to like the look of sonex), be easier than covering the 'glass w/ cloth and maybe have added sonic benefits. Still haven't thought about what to do w/ the exposed 'glass edge yet.

It will add maybe a tiny bit of absorbtion in the bottom - but not much - IMO not enough to justify the cost.  Cloth is cheaper.  If you want to spend extra money, go with additional thickness for your bass absorbers in fiberglass, mineral wool, or cotton.
