Can anyone help??

I was installing new speaker cable (Gregg Straley Reality Cables) into my JVC RX-F10 tonight.  The Reality Cables are pin terminated to accomidate the the spring loaded speaker posts on the JVC put but nontheless it has been trying trying to get them in snuggly.
When I went to power everything up the JVC went into standby as soon as it detected the signal from my DVD player.  I unpowered everything and took out the JVC to have a closer look and I had noticed one of the clips had fallen out and the spring attached to the clip got lost inside the JVC.  I took the lid off the JVC to get the spring and I noticed I had pushed in the metal terminal for the right speaker channel which was clearly a result of me trying to force the pin inside.  I pushed it back into it's slot with a good degree of effort and reattched the post and spring on the outside of the unit.  I reinstalled the cables to the JVC powered everything back up and have been confronted with the same problem of the unit going into stand by as soon as it detected a signal from my dvd player.  Just to make sure it wasn't just the dvd player I also tried a signal from my tv and FM tuner and same problem.
I'm reading the troubleshooting section on the back of the JVC manual and and it looks like the clearest possible cause is that "the speakers are overloaded because of a short circuit at the speaker terminals".  It states for a solution to "check the speaker wiring and if the speaker wire is not short circuited to contact your dealer".  How do I know the answer to this question and where do I go from here?  Can anyone help?
Thanks.

A few suggestions

Power it up with nothing connected. If it goes into protect mode, you can guess that something is still shorting from when you forced the pin in.

Try your old cables & see if it makes a difference. If this works, replace only one of the new cables & see if it works. If yes, swap out for the other new cable. This is to test if there is a short in one of the new speaker cables.

Hope this helps

Thanks,
With nothing connected it does not go into standby.  I tried connecting some ordinary bare wire speaker cables and I was getting temporary sound out of the left channel only for about 30 seconds before it succumbed to standby.
Is the JVC salvagable or could this mean it's toast?  Would someone out there know how to fix it?

Well I may have just fixed my friend.  Upon further inspection this morning inside the JVC I noticed two metal plates were not completely snug (maybe a hair pushed out) into the lower level binding posts for both the front right and left channels.  I powered everything back up with ordinary speaker cables and I have sound  :D .  Now I just need to be very carefull when I reinsert the Reality Cable pins .

Hey Jason,

I'm glad you got it fixed.  That thing has got me so frustrated with the spring clips, fan noise, crackling on the volume control.  It sounds really good but I think it is time for a contingency plan.  I guess you ride it til it dies.  Be careful and let us know what you think of the Reality Cables.  I have been thinking about some myself.  :D

The Gregg Straley Reality Cables are installed and sounding fantastic  :D (but my god it wasn't easy) .  I'll have more to report on my impressions once they've settled in.  Right now they're just trouncing all former speaker cables.

If anyone decides to get the Reality Cables pin terminated for the JVC F-10 remember this when installing, the pins have to go in sideways it's the only way they will fit inside the post.   It is a very exact fit but the will slip in with very little pressure if you have them positioned perfectly.  Be prepared for this to take a little time.  DO NOT PUSH THEM IN WITH ANY TYPE OF FORCE! I learned the hard way the you can push the metal contact back inside the JVC making a signal connection impossible.  Once the this happens you have to go inside the JVC and do a little repair work to get things back to normal which takes a good degree of force wedging metal back into a tight fitting plastic post.
If you have any questions let me know.
