Sometimes, not that often anymore, though...lots of stuff on the net on artist(new and old) and releases..

Do you guys make sure you hear every album you buy at least once front to back
Of all my s/w in any form their are very few I have not listened too completely at least once.  There are few genre's I won't listen to if it is performed well, good sonic quality doesn't hurt, of course.

I just wanted to tip my hat to you guys/gals for the most eclectic music I have ever seen. :thumb:
Every time I read this thread I'm truly amazed at the various albums you folks find. Correct me if I'm wrong but you just grab the stuff that catches your eye right? Do you guys make sure you hear every album you buy at least once front to back or is it more about looking and finding the most obscure titles, performers, etc..?????
It always stops me in my tracks--Thank you!!!!! 8)

I lived in Europe for a number of years and was exposed to a lot of local music in the restaurants and pubs I frequented, and when I went out "clubbing" I'd hear a lot of obscure British music (post punk/new wave/electronic/goth) that was all the rage back then. Well, at least in the places I hung out in. I also lived in D.C. from 86-91 and listened to WHFS, which played what they used to call "college music", which was a more jangly form of the above (think The Smiths, REM, The Church, Echo and the Bunnymen, early U2, etc.). with a few exceptions, most of the music I hear on the radio makes me want to vomit. I rarely listen to the radio these days because Houston has the worst stations on the planet. Rice University has an amazing station (KTRU), but they sold their transmitter to a classical station and can now only be heard on HD radio, which I don't have in my vehicle yet. I'm very attracted to the post-punk sounds of early 80's to mid-90's England. Probably a full third of my collection is filled with it. I get a lot of new music selections by spending time listening to samples on Amazon. I can usually tell in a few seconds if I like something or not. From there it goes into my wish list, and eventually into my shopping cart. I also get good recommendations from this thread. I never buy anything that catches my eye. I made that mistake a couple of times when I first started collecting.

I'd much rather listen to The Comsat Angels than Pink Floyd, but that's just me being me.

One last thing, I listen to every album I play from start to finish EVERY TIME. I never play just part of an album. The ONLY exception is double "greatest hits" albums or boxed sets. I'll usually play just one disc from the set from start to finish.

Happy listening,

Slush

I hear you...radio is dead as far as I am concerned, except for the occasional classical station I'll tune into...

When I was discharged from the USN, late 69' BCN here in NE was the ticket. No where else around would you hear a full side of PG's Mac or Brian Auger...heck Peter Wolf was just leavin as a DJ on to his gig with JGiels..

Radio has never been the same...
