Even after over 11 years, still one of the best progressive-metal releases.

Pain of Salvation - Perfect Element Part I

While most prog-metal bands tend to overtly demonstrate their chops, these guys have always made sure that emotion comes first. They have loads of chops, but they always serve the content of the music.

And there's some pretty gut wrenching emotion on this one.

No one else I know of are able to juxtapose brutal passages with beautiful ones and make it all sound so cohesive.

Too bad they went completely off the rails with 'Scarsick'. A 9 minute long disco song? Really guys? Some would say they went off the rails with 'BE", but that one has enough quality material to make up for the bad.

The latest in a series of gorgeous re-issues of Clutch albums with deluxe packaging , great remastering, and tons of extras now on the band's own Weathermaker label. If bands like this got played on the radio, I'd listen to the radio again...
