Holst' The Planets- Previn conducting the LSO (EMI);
Svengali- Gil Evans Orchestra (Atlantic);
Larry McNeely with Geoff Levin and Jack Skinner (Sheffield);
stuff that's makes me so happy I have a record player.

Live at Birdland- John Coltrane (Impulse).  AFRO BLUE from this is in the ascendant of jazz works, imo.  Turn it up!  How could a 24 year old short haired, ivy league lookin young man play piano with this kind of yearning and intensity?  Well, Coltrane recognized something very special in McCoy Tyner which is abundantly clear here.  And Elvin Jones POURS it on!  Can't say that loud enough.  Ascendant, positively.

Superchunk - Majesty Shredding (2010)

Samples

I love this music, but the recording quality is piss-poor (can you say compressed up the wazoo) that I stopped playing it after a couple of times.  Well, I received interconnects, speaker cables and a digital cable this week from a fairly new company for review, and decided to try this cd using them in my system, even though they are not fully broken in.  I want to report that the cables didn't turn a turd into chocolate bon-bons but gave the illusion that it did.  The sound is a lot better.  Just to make sure this wasn't a one time fluke, I played R.E.M.'s Out Of Time, a mediocre recording at best, and that sounded better also.  No, not good enough to bring tears to my eyes but certainly a lot more listenable than before.

Oh, and I haven't put the speaker cables in the system yet, and the digital cable and interconnects are still burning-in.  I'm going to have a hard time reviewing these cables because all I want to do is just listen to the music.

You'd think that an album with a frickin' vacuum tube on the cover would have great sound  :scratch:

Yeah, I know.  That's exactly what I said in my original posting when I first got this cd.  I have to go back and find that posting.
