Remember when double and triple albums put side 4 or 6 opposite side 1 (like this album), so you could stack them on your record player, play the sides in order and flip them over? I must confess I did that at parties during my college & law school years.
A second pairing of the Art Ensemble Of Chicago and the Amabutho Male Chorus – one that's indicated not just in the title of the record, but in a changing of the group's name! The sound here is even more Afro-styled than the previous effort – coming across right from the start with a bold, righteous vibe that's quite unique – almost a bit more confident than some of the Ensemble's other work of the time – and executed in a way that really shows that confidence! The male voices aren't always in strong focus, which still leaves plenty of space for the group's creative instrumental interplay

Chaosmos is an aesthetic that engenders a unique philosophy of sound that invokes dynamic changes and raises awareness.In this Global Era when civilisation and industrialisation are bringing unprecedented accomplishments and demands, some Koreans are reviving sounds endemic to their ancestors’ music to re-awaken waning spiritual values.Rich spiritual, philosophical and aesthetic background of Korean music, Taoism, Buddhism, and Shamanism and their related musical genres will be presented together with three musicians leading the groups appearing at the WOMEX 10 Opening Concert. Chaired by a principal Korean ethnomusicologist and world-renowned journalist, the ancient yet historically formulated roots of Korean music will be delivered. In this special session, you will discover true meanings of Korean music and at the same time also capture a vivid picture of the modern Korean music scene. The musicians will present their own musical roots, namely music of heaven (classical pungnyu), earth (Buddhist beompae), and human (Shamanistic sinawi).
