Sarah June’s sophomore album, In Black Robes, is a breathy, soul-plucking follow-up to her 2008 debut entitled This is My Letter to the World. We’re going to go whole hog and just say it – we love this album. No objections there. Our only objection is the idea that in one way or another this is considered to be a “goth” album. Perhaps it’s us, but the closest thing to goth imagery we’re seeing is June herself in press shots – all of which is fitting of who she is, but not necessarily a reflection of her musical genre...http://beatcrave.com/2010-03-12/album-review-sarah-junes-in-black-robes/
Tru dat...what goth? Very good album...first half is bare bones, just her and her guitar(in her bedroom) the second half of the album is fleshed out with a fuller soundscape.
She does have that goth look.

From the opening bass, snare drum and accordion of "Ki Eshmera," the Boston-based Klezwoods deliver a beautifully structured and performed collection of traditional tunes on its debut, Oy Yeah!. The nine-piece band moves from haunting ballads to frenzied dance tunes with ease, adding an intriguing original tune from clarinetist Alec Spiegelman for good measure.

Kletzwoods is led by violinist Joe Kessler, a versatile player who has worked with Morphine and the Robert Plant/Jimmy Page reunion band. Kessler describes Klezwoods' music as "music of the Ottoman Empire." It's as good a description as any, for most of these tunes originate from East European countries such as Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria—but it fails to convey the delight and joyousness contained within the tunes and expressed wonderfully by the band. ...http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=37408

Actually what i like best on this album are the vocals of Trixie Whitley. It's a mix bag, some really good stuff, some not so good. But it all sounds good on my system. (what I really need is a patmyselfontheback smiley)

She (Trixie Whitley) is Chris Whitley's daughter....
