I was eagerly awaiting this cd in the mail last week, since it's the band's first release after reuniting. It was delivered a day before I headed out to Rocky Mountain, so I didn't have time to listen until tonight. Musically, it's as good or better than any of their early efforts, but sonically it's piss poor. I mean compressed up the wazoo. The only ways I'm going to listen to it again is if I play it at low volumes in my bedroom system or on my car cd player. What a waste of good music.

p.s. Someone had the nerve to put a vacuum tube on the cover.

Ur- Steve Tibbetts (Framis). Read at Amazon that this has been released on CD from ECM who he later signed with. I'm gonna listen to side two in a few minutes. Side one, all these years (released in 1980), just nails me. It ain't quit yet.

Yeah, I agree, the music is good and from a band I like, but...the compression sucks...not as bad as Metallica's last fiasco

...still it's more evidence of the poor engineering being practiced today.

Diane Birch - Bible Belt.

This is one of the test cds I used at Rocky Mountain. I ended up playing the song "Fire Escape" much more than any of the other test cds. It's not audiophile quality, just good music. If the system conveyed the emotional impact of the artist, and rendered the music with realistic tonality, then it passed my test. Besides, audiophile quality cds sound good on almost all audio systems, even most midfi equipment. So it's not really a test for me.
