No boring trance, no smash-hit techno, just freedom of expression through good-hearted dance beats. This attitude is what inspired the releases on Klang that are still a style-guide to this very day.

"Across the Sea of Id: The Way to Eden" is a dramatic shift away from the heavy ethno/progressive rock of 2006’s Bolt of Apollo CD to an earlier style of semi-acoustic instrumental music that became Black Sun Ensemble signature sound in the 1980s. According to Eric Johnson, “…in the end, BSE has truly come full-circle. "Across the Sea of Id" is the record I have always wanted to make with the Ensemble. It captures what I think makes Jesus Acedo such a huge talent its not about the guitar solos, its about the haunting quality of his song-writing.” http://www.cameraobscura.com.au/cam083.htm

Muting the Noise isn't a traditional ambient comp in the mold of Kompakt's standard-bearer Pop Ambient series. Sure, some material aims straight for broadsheet wallpapering; both I:Cube's "Nuées Ardentes" and "Tokyo Black Star's "Kagura" mine the sort of modestly pleasant hush and flicker that leads many to write ambient off as music for the inattentive, and Japanese artist Koss' "Negai" isn't so much chilly as frozen-stiff...http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=5443

I'm spinning the 2nd album by the best American progressive band (ever?).

Happy the Man - Crafty Hands

Great melodies, top class musicianship and plenty of odd meters. Somehow, even when playing in odd meters, they never lose sight of the melody and emotion.

And enough can't be said about Kit Watkins keyboard playing.

Just received a new SACD budget player(Yamaha SL1800), and ran some SACD discs for initial impressions...pretty darn good sonics for the princely sum of $80.  :eyebrows:

SACD
Stravinsky Firebird Suite

Orff: Carmina Burana (Hybrid SACD)

Jaco Pastorius Big Band, Word of Mouth Revisited (SACD)
