B & S was an early influence for Camera Obscura, another Scottish band that's become popular.

How are you liking this? I paid $90 for mine, and was very disappointed. Wound up gifting it.
RE: Billie Holliday early years

Its low-fi, early radio broadcast quality...I didn't have high expectations in the sonic dept. Soooo, I find it interesting to hear Billie play off the announcers and radio personalities of those days. There are a few gems here and there, you can 'feel' the talent when she sings.  So far I have heard Disc 1 & 2.  I only paid $30., as part of the recent ESP label sale.

Another ESP re-release(2008).

Recorded 10/05/1964.
Giuseppi Logan: alto sax, tenor sax, Pakistani oboe, bass clarinet, flute
 Don Pullen: piano.
 Eddie Gomez: bass.
 Milford Graves: drums, tabla.
The crunch here for me is Pullen on the keys.  :eyebrows:
Quote
...Don Pullen establishes the piano as a lead instrument in a fashion analogous to that of the horn: he scatters the notes and then regroups them within a theme that comes out of nowhere. Pullen goes inside the piano as much as he plays the keys, in vagrant phrases and chords; he performs a flippant solo in "Taneous" and a sprightly one in "Dialogue." The piano's chordal descent in "Bleecker Partita" falls into a river of phrasing that pushes the overall musical evolution. ...http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=30397

Interesting history on Logan;
Quote
When Giuseppi Logan resurfaced just over a year ago, after having been absent from the jazz scene for nearly forty years, a comeback seemed unlikely. Homeless at the time, Logan could often be found playing for tips in Tompkins Square Park on a pawn shop alto sax - not the most prestigious gig in New York. He had just started playing again after decades away from the music, and with other priorities  (such as finding a permanent place to live) taking center stage, a jazz comeback seemed a steep hill to climb for the 75 year old multi-instrumentalist and composer....http://www.jazzreview.com/cd/review-20919.html
You see a lot of guys out on the streets/ or in the subway, making their music heard...one never know where they have been.
