Super Session
Michael Bloomfield, Al Kooper, Stephen Stills

Heard a piece of this out at RMAF, Ltr317 said it was a fantastic recording, but i didn't think it was something i would like.I found a clean copy on lp and brought it home with me thought i would give it a listen. Wow It really is a great recording. I assume Stephen Stills is from CSNY but i don't know the other two guys at all.

You're welcome.  :D  Don't know if you were listening when I mentioned to the exhibitor (forgot which room) that the reason Steve Stills is playing on the second side, is because he had to fill in for Bloomfield, due to him being too wasted to continue.  But when Bloomfield was coherent, he was just amazing.

I have almost every Al Kooper lp but don't have that one.  How does it compare to some of his others?

Patty Larkin-- most of her stuff is interesting and very well recorded.

Patty Larkin: Regrooving the Dream
Vanguard Records 79552-2
Format: CD

You?ll find Patty Larkin in the folk section, although I have no idea how they classify her so easily. Listening to this CD is like taking a trip across a diverse landscape. The ride is always enjoyable, but always changing. As a reference disc, its uses are also quite varied. For soundstage width, check out "The River." There is a haunting guitar chord that decays into tomorrow. With the right system it will reach around behind you and raise the hairs on your neck. Depth and imaging are also excellent. For microdynamics, I always like acoustic guitar. On the short track "Hand Full of Water," you can almost name the brand of strings. For sorting out some serious speed and complexity, there is nothing like the blistering drum and guitar solo on "When." Only the bravest of systems can hold this together. All this and incredible female vocals to boot make this disc one fine trip on a system that has what it takes....Bill Brooks

Bloomfield's chronic insomnia was the reason for Stills to fill in on Super Session....later he got hooked on heroin.... :?

Mike Bloomfield was an incredible blues guitarist from Chicago. He joined the original Paul Butterfield Blues Band with Paul Butterfield and Elvin Bishop and later helped form Electric Flag (their drummer was Buddy Miles). Bloomfield also played with Dylan in the mid 60's when Dylan was transitioning to "electric.". Al Kooper founded Blood Sweat & Tears (Child Is Father to the Man album), but left soon after. After Super Session was recorded and released, Columbia recorded and released an album entitled The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper recorded at the Fillmore in San Francisco September 26-28, 1968. Elvin Bishop and Carlos Santana played on the album because Bloomfield was in the hosptial the 3d night being sedated to sleep. It is essentially a live jam and a fantastic album. Song selection includes The 59th Street Bridge Song, The Weight, Dear Mr. Fantasy, Her Holy Modal Highness and No More Lonely Nights. Norman Rockwell painted the cover which is a portrait of Bloomfield and Kooper. This picture does not do the album cover justice, but you get the idea.

I've had the album for 41 years and it is a wonderful peice of the 60's San Francisco music scene. I also have Super Session and I have always liked this one a little better than Super Session because of its raw feel.

Raisin' Hell [LIVE]
Elvin Bishop

Now i have a bunch of Elvin Bishop solo work  in my collection and 3 or 4 Butterfield blues band cd's from when i was chasing down Elvin Bishop stuff. I found Elvin Bishop by a Mention in a Charley Daniels Song  (There's Elvin Bishop Sitting on a bail of hay, He ain't good looking but he sure can play) but i never chased down any of the other artests because my musical journey at the time was focused on English Blues  groups Like Humble Pie, Savoy Brown - Kim Simons. may just be my Fav. Gutar player. And i more or less dismissed a bunch of white boys from Chi town trying to play blues
