Simply enchanting...its a 6 ina world of 5's.

Pimavera en Salonico has been together for fifteen years with basically the same members, and creates arrangements of traditional or folk music from lands in a great arc from Spain through Southern Italy and Greece, the Balkans, the Caucasus and back down through the Levant...Not knowing the languages of the pieces is actually a plus, since the syllables tend to become abstract sounds, even if they are grouped into phrases that imply language. Vomvolos' arrangements sound wide open and allow the ensemble to almost magically translate each tune's melody and underlying linguistic meaning into musical emotions.

Excellente'... :thumb:

Unpretentiously carving their place amidst the select cast of historically-significant piano trios, Stenson and longtime acolyte Anders Jormin reign supreme in the format's already charged heritage. Acclaimed for their distinctive European affect and approach as well as for the unparalleled sense of drama and adventure their collaboration conjures, the two Swedish bards in many ways recall the esteemed Bill Evans-Scott LaFaro tandem...Thrown into a magic ring only to come out an hour later completely spellbound, Cantando's exhilarating lyricism and mysticism succeeds in prolonging the spell set by its predecessors.

Oh goody, I'm on this.  I have a couple ECM's from the 70's that he was a superb sideman on.

This is probably the 3rd album I have by this bass player...and I have to say aside from his African heritage, his playing borders on the boring/bland...I think its his attempt to be everything to every style, and he is coming up short. While there may be a few tracks (over the 3 cds I have) that offers promise, on the majority of tunes he just sounds like a regular session player.
Doesn't make me sweat.
