Oh, I definitely know Opeth's whole catalog, one of my current high rotation bands. I like to queue their who discography in my player and then hit random, to take me wherever it may in their career.

Rishloo is another favorite in the genre, Karnivool, Tesseract, Amplifier, Anciients, Mastodon. All in higher rotation these days.

I think the genre is metal/rock for grown ups. Some of the better bands like some of those mentioned above are exceptional in musicianship and song writing and making some of the most interesting rock out there today being made.

Well said. Doom is interesting metal and I find your description quite applicable to this genre too. The band Draconian is a prime example.

I haven't really dabbled in Doom. I've been revisiting the melodic death metal of early In Flames and Dark Tranquility and some of the harder progressive stuff like Gojira.
