The Hold Steady - Teeth Dreams 2014

A big step forward from Heaven is Whenever but the production by Nick Raskulinecz is absolutely dreadful. It's actually difficult to describe the sound - it's huge but muddy, lots of kick drum but with vocals pushed back in the mix so the lyrics are buried in murk ( on a Hold Steady album? ). Big guitars that lack clarity,definition and punch. A bloody mess, actually. Oh yes, and it's had the living shit compressed out of it. Yay.
