Listening to this now. I remember when this album first came out, but had not given it much thought since then. Wasn't really the music type I was listening to at the time. I have Maria McKee's first solo album, but don't listen to it all that much.

It wasn't my kind of music either, but I caught them on Saturday Night Live after that album was released and was mesmerized by Maria McKee. Her looks, voice, stage presence - the entire package. I was hooked! I like her solo albums better than the stuff she did with Lone Justice, but they're still fun to listen to. I don't like posting YouTube videos because the links die so quickly, but do a search for the live version of "I Found Love". Man, she looked really good back then!

SP,

Thanks for the recommendation.  :thumb:

That's a great album. Fun to play when you have people over and want to get them off the couch.

Brightest Darkest Day - Pyyramids (Format: 320k MP3 from MOG)

Samples

I have to say that I really like this album. In the couple of weeks since it came out, I can't really count the number of times I have listened to it. Big fan.  :thumb:

Here is an excerpt from their website.

Quote

PYYRAMIDS is the dark and mysterious union of two beautifully creative minds joined together from great distance. Improbably comprised of Tim Nordwind and Drea Smith – he from the indie rock band OK Go, she from the electro-pop outfit He Say/She Say – the duo initially bonded over an affinity for first-wave British post-punk and 80’s Manchester bands. “We were an unlikely combination, and that seemed like reason enough to try it,” Nordwind explains. After a mutual friend introduced the pair via email, a dialogue started and a fast friendship was forged…the musical ideas began to flow back and forth via email. “We didn’t have any specific goal, we just started writing and these songs emerged,” elaborates Smith.

Feeding off each other’s energy, productive beat maker Nordwind and thoughtful lyricist Smith wrote a handful of songs before they ever met in-person. Over time, PYYRAMIDS’ sound began to emerge, favoring stripped back instruments mixed with electronic elements and layered with Smith’s laid-back soulful vocal delivery to produce a mystical, intimate sound. Critics have said of Smith’s crooning it’s as if “Billie Holiday grew up listening to The Smiths.” “I’ve never really heard indie music with a voice like that,” Nordwind explains. “It adds three-dimensionality to the moods, beats and chords.”

Burning Image - Fantasma (2009)

I was looking for artists similar to Killing Joke a couple of weeks ago and
stumbled upon these guys. I heard the samples and ordered it
immediately. It's damn good if you like gloomy - industrial/metal bands.

Faster Than the Speed of Night - Bonnie Tyler (Format: CD (1983))

Samples

Some of the songs on this album have the same feel as Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell. After looking at the liner notes I know why. Jim Steinman produced both albums and wrote quite a few of the songs also.
