Richard & Linda Thompson - I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight (1974)samples
The Tragically Hip - Day for Night (1994)SamplesD.D. posted this the other night and I stumbled upon it in a Half Price Books clearance bin this afternoon. I had "Road Apples" on cassette back in the day and haven't owned a "Hip" album in many years. I forgot how good these guyswere. Adding more to the list as I listen. Great stuff.
Hey Pup! That album catches "God's Band" right at that magical sweet spot where they're at the peak of their powers but still haven't decided that they need to "grow" and begin the downward spiral to becoming overly self-aware and eventually boring. If the band begins to bore itself, it packs it in. If not, they lumber on and on making records which are pale imitations of what came before but incorporating pennywhistles, a lute, an orchestra, hip-hop beatz, Bob Rock or Rick Rubin. Or some combination thereof.Back to the Hip ( who are still together ), make sure the album before this one, Fully Completely, is on your list. Song for song it's probably the best of the lot. D.D.
Downward spirals are painful to watchSlush
