What are you listening to right now?

I listened to the MP3 version. They now have the lossless available, which I will download when I get around to it. I liked the album. It sounds like a JH album, she is playing to her strengths. Seems to be getting some good reviews.

Cool, can't wait for it to get here. Do you have any of the the Blake Babies albums? Earwig and Sunburn are really great. JH was the bass player and did lead vocals.

American Football (1999)

So I got a very late Christmas gift today from an old Navy friend. He's retired now and works at Allstate in Chicago. A couple of months ago he was talking to a co-worker and she mentioned her son was a drummer in a band and wanted to know if he wanted a copy of their album. He said sure (thinking it was a CD-R of some kids playing in a garage). A week later she hands him a very professional looking disc. Turns out she's the mother of Steve Lamos, the drummer for American Football. My friend asked if her son could sign it and that's why it came to me so late. Turns out they are hot right now and have recently played dates with the Pixies and The Strokes! Her son got the other two original members to sign the disc and my buddy sent it to me thinking I'd like it. Hell yeah!

I have 4 of the JH albums and the JH3 album, but no Blake Babies. I have heard the Blake Babies, but I have not run across their albums yet. So much music, so little time and money.

They reissused a deluxe version of the album last year. It was well received. I picked up the deluxe version last year which has extra live tracks on it. They are from Champaign, IL. I like how all the songs are played at different time signatures.

I got a signed copy of the deluxe version with the boombox practice sessions and live tracks. If I understood what my friend was telling me, the drummer is now a chemistry professor but is taking a hiatus to go on tour. They are supposed to play in Japan this summer. I was stationed near Champaign at the long gone Chanute Air Force Base in the mid 80's and again in the early 90's. I know the area well. I saw Hum at Mabel's just before they made it big. I went to my weather observing and forecasting schools there. My girlfriend is a UI engineer graduate. Her family lives in Quincy.
