The more I hear of these Japanese re-issues, the more impressed I am. I have SACD's which don't stand up to the SQ of this. Simply outstanding.
Oh, and one more thing... if The Boys Are Back In Town is the greatest summer song ever written, then Dancing In The Moonlight is one damned close second place...

The best Elton John album ? Much has been said of the "disjointed" feel of this album but what I think is that you're hearing a perfect storm of an exceptional songwriting partnership and an exceptional band at the peak of their powers taking a run at any style that catches their eye because they are confident that they can pull it off. And for the most part they do. Considering that between 1969 and 1976 the Elton John Band (for the most part in one line-up ) released 14 albums including two doubles and only one live album and no compilations, the consistency is outstanding. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road offers up 17 tracks without a real pooch among them and is one of the few double albums you can listen to front to back without getting restless. Ponder that...
