Vintage turntable problem/question
« on: 2 Mar 2006, 01:33 am »
Hi ya'll
I was going though my basement this evening and came across one of my older tables, a Pioneer YP-B2. I also found an old HK 230e integrated, Dynaco FM5 and a $2 pair of Pioneer garage sale speakers.

The HK has a phono stage in it so I threw everything on the kitchen table and grabbed some Ray Charles vinyl.

The problem..... The table has a noise problem. Not a hum problem or when listening but when you touch/tap the table or arm, even slightly, you hear it very loudly through the speakers. If you continue to tap the table, it slowly demishes over a period of about 15 seconds. It's the same sound you would get when tapping on a microphone.
Sound like a ground problem? Wiring? Thoughts?
