Equipment Stand spikes (Adona and PE)
« on: 24 Feb 2006, 08:18 pm »
I've been passively hunting for a few extra pairs of spikes for my lack shevles.  I had enough to get the bottom, but I had to use rounded screws for the others.  I just made an interesting correlation.

Check out the spikes from Adona in this http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?accstwek&1145332799'>ad or http://www.adonacorporation.com/cones.html'>on their site

Pay careful attention to the pictures and the second paragraph of text on their site (last paragraph on the ad).

Now check out these
from http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=240-715'>Parts Express

Notice that the pictures are almost identical and the text actually is.

So I can pay $22.50 from Adona or I can buy from PE for $18.88 for 1 and 16.75 for 4+.

Ironically the Adona shelves were close to the top of my list before I cheaped out and build Ken Lyon's (neuance) free DIY project.

I have like 10 shelves from Adona.  Paul Lemanski is good guy and he did initially use Parts Express cones.  I know because he gave them to me in the original packaging.  He may have have different supplier by now.  I will say that the Parts Express cones work fine with the stands.  The "isolation" comes from the leveling footers and the damping particle board under the granite board.  The cones on the leg of the stands are just icing on the cake.  I think these are great product at its price point.  I doesn't hurt that I was one of the very first to discover him on E Bay and subsquently bought a bunch with loyal repeat customer discount.

Yeah, the shelves look pretty nice.  I was seriously considering them.  In the shelf system the spikes would be just a part of the whole though.  Why should Adona manufacture spikes when they can get those for a good price.  No one is going to feel cheated that those spikes were used because they are included in the whole system as part of a bigger whole (value added).  Even adding more spikes to an existing order at their $22 is defendable since you are providing one stop shopping and one shipping charge (convience = $).

However selling just the spikes alone (which is what both links I gave are) is a little different.  In this case as far as I can see there is no value add to justify a higher price.  It almost looks like scalping.

They do indeed have some interesting racks.  They have a lot of broken links on their page though.  If you ever communicate with them, might wanna let them know.  Kinda makes ya wonder when a place has a half-functional website, and I'm sure that's not the impression they want to give a perspective customer. :)

I have four Adona platforms and they are very nice to look at and rock solid.

Paul is also a good guy to deal with.
