Burning DVD from A Camcorder
« on: 14 Feb 2006, 05:00 am »
A friend, who is travelling on business, emailed me that his daughter has a school project that she needs help with.  She needs to burn a DVD from her camcorder.  The father gets in Wed night, and the project is due on Thursday, and I don't have any details about the camcorder, or any of the availalbe PCs.  I realize that I don't have enough details to allow for a decent answer, but I am hoping to get some background and general suggestions.  Any thoughts you have on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, John

Since time is a critical issue and you don't have any info on the camcorder (analog or digital??), I would suggest your friend this simple quick and easy method . Go to Best Buy or Circuit City and buy one of these DVR recorders. You don't need to buy any additional software, just plug-and-record. :)

If you have a Sony camcorder, I would recommend the GX315 which BB also sells.

-you can burn to dual-layer disks
-burning from camcorder via firewire (the superior way) is a 1 step process, and you can edit on the fly (you can use it as if it were a VCR for that function)
-no pesky program guide to get in the way
-tuner is flawless - no mono/stereo problems

This is not a cheap quality, unreliable player, nor is it inexpensive, but I think with rebate is is less than $250.

I use it for making DVDs from my camcorder about once a week.
