SW12A/PR12A downfiring sub
« on: 12 Feb 2006, 08:53 pm »
Hello All,
I want to build a sub with 2 SW12A's and 2 PR12A's by creating a cabinet that is double the cabinet shown in the PDF on the GR-Research website.  Would this configuration make sense to have the woofer downfiring and PR upfiring or vice verse?  If not, what would be the best configuration for a tall sub?  I have depth for a 33" wide 16.5" deep 22" high sub, but not for a 22" deep sub.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

I just recently built a dual sub cabinet myself that is just like the plans on my site but for a pair using a common wall. I still need to veneer it.

You can down fire the sub if you like, but the heavy PR needs to be mounted vertically on one of the sides.

You can't have the PR firing up or down --too much weight on it. You could put one woofer down, one up and put the two PRs on the one of the sides.

Thanks for the quick replies, I am glad I asked before doing.  Does it matter which side the PRs are firing toward?  For instance, If I the cabinet near a corner, should the PR's fire toward the room or toward a wall?

Thanks,
Kevin

It will make a difference which way they face, but there is no wrong way. You will like one way more than another.

Thanks!
By the way Danny, is this amp at PE the same as the the Apex Senior?

I need some other stuff at PE, and it is a little cheaper.

That amp is made by the same company but it is a smaller version (less powerful).

I will have to order the Apex then.  You will be getting an order from me soon.  Thanks for the help!
