Child labour & electronics...

Hi all, I have completed (with some help from my son) the GK1-EL and during testing, all readings were in spec although I had a couple that were negative readings when the manual stated positive. My 2 channels both read -46.2V and -45.8V at R26B instead of the stated 43V to 49V. Is this an error or have I stuffed up??

My son sorted all my resistors out for me and labelled my other parts so I thought it fair to let him solder my big capacitors for me, so if there is a problem, I can blame him

Regards,
Martin

Martin,

I'm very concerned about this.......  early contact with DIY, and in particular the vector of a soldering iron clearly visible in your photograph, has resulted in infection with the deadly virus of audiophilia nervosa.

Sadly it is only a matter of a few short weeks and he will be at Stage 1.  The advance of this dreadful affliction is inevitable;  it is quite likely he will reach full blown Stage 5 by early adolescence.  I am very sorry.

Treatment is expensive, both in the dollar and time sense.  Constant infusions of assembly therapy will be required, and may in fact outlast his working life.  Really, Sir, you should be ashamed of yourself......

Be assured, however, that most have survived this virus.  It does not result in death, but merely reaches equilibrium at Stage 5 when it achieves symbiosis with the host.  He will have some difficulties with socialization, but should survive to father his own children.  However, there will always be pointed fingers from the opposite sex, so perhaps a warning in a few years is in order!

Swap the test probes of your R26B results and the voltages will be positive!!  In fact, they are good results and your GK1 should soon be humming.  I now have the pot and am sending it on today!

Cheers,

Hugh
