I set up my SB2 last night with no encryption, just to try it out.  I'm now trying to set up my router and SB2 with a static IP address and can't figure out what I should be doing.  Is there a good guide somewhere with a step by step explanation on how this is set up.  I'm using a Linksys wireless.  It's 1am and I'm still with out music!

"Use a static IP address for your squeezebox and slimserver versus DHCP." (from the squeezebox FAQ thread)

I tried setting it up this afternoon without encryption and got a message it could not connect. I also have a Linksys wireless. Will reread all the instructions and call SlimDevices and Linksys tech support on Monday if I need to. Good luck

In Win XP go to control panel, network connections, and right click on local area connection. Then choose status, support, details. Write down the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server info and then go to the Squeezebox and go thru the set up networking routine and choose "specify a static IP address". Copy the info you got from your computer exactly except the ip address which should be higher than your computers. So if your computers IP is, for example, 192.168.1.101 make the address for the SB 192.168.1.103. Make your routers address 192.168.1.102 and you should be in business. If you have other computers on your network check their addresses first to make sure that there are no conflicts (same address).
Do this and your only other hurdle should be configuring your firewall.

thanks.  I'll try this today, when my son takes his nap.  So I don't need to go to the Linksys set up online.  I had type in the linksys ip address and was looking around the set up there thinking I needed make changes there.

I think Tweaker was sleepy last night and made a typo. :)

The addresses listed:
Quote
192.167.1.101 make the address for the SB 192.167.1.103. Make your routers address 192.168.1.102
are on different networks and will not work.

They need to be:
192.168.1.101 make the address for the SB 192.168.1.103. Make your routers address 192.168.1.102

Even with tech support from Linksys We couldn't get my WRT54GS wireless router setup.
 Thank God for Rashiki!!!
In about 20 min. he had everything up and running.

Here are the numbers I get when I go into IPCONFIG.
      192.168.2.100
      255.255.255.0
     193.168.2.1

 Hope this helps.

            Cheers

SB2 appears to be working. All the displays look fine, but no sound as I'm getting my amp back tomorrow. The SB 2 linked automatically, so I did not need to assign a new IP address. I'll do so if I have trouble. Signal strength is 75-80%. Neat little box and thanks again for the help.
