2006 Grammy Nominees CD

Picked up the 2006 Grammy Nominees CD a few days ago and it is well loaded:

Stones
Bruce Springsteen
Kelly Clarkson
U2
McCartney
Neil Young
Seal
Green Day
Stevie Wonder
Jack Johnson
John Legend
Rob Thomas
Sheryl Crow

to name a few.

Most all of it pretty good stuff.  Don't know why I like the Kelly Clarkson cut so much, but man does it sound good when it is "CRANKED".

It took me a while to come to grips with the Kelly Clarkson but I finally had to  admit that she is a very good singer with a beautiful voice.  She also seems to have a very likeable personality.  I don't know which song you are talking about but my wife bought the CD (I'd admit it if I did!) and I enjoy pretty much all of the songs.  It's pop but she does it well.  Also, the song that won and the one she sang at the show are both great.  I thought her performance was the best of the night.

The Clarkson cut is "Since U been Gone", and it ROCKS!  It reminds me of a young, rough, Pat Benatar or Chrisie Hinds type pacing and structure.

I hated Kelly Clarkson on American Idol, but she completely transcends the bubble gum pop that AI had planned for her on that song.  It completely took me by surprise and is an AWESOME tune for angst ridden/unrequited love.  Who knew she was this emotive?  Is the sound quality OK for a popular release, John?

Hi Michael,

Didn't see her on AI (I seldom watch TV) so I didn't have preconception of her talent, good or bad, other than I did know that she was on the show.  Strangely enough I learned this through jokes, from listening to the Howard Stern show.

Also I haven't heard any of her other work except what she did on the Grammys (which I did see some of) the other night and like Jackman, I thought she was one of the highlights.

As far as the quality of the Grammys pressing, it is "WAY" H-O-T!!!!

I generally listen to CD's at 11:00.  This is loud at 8:30. so the engineer goosed it to the max, it is "red-lined".  So the disc is a little edgy in spots.

The Stones hold up well too, for geezers. 8)   Hell, they're older than me
